Parenting may be difficult, but mother of four Kayela Larson has found a way to deal through painting. Larson’s illustrations are endearingly amusing, showing motherhood and all of its comic craziness.

The artist’s lifelong interest for painting and animation was motivated by classic Disney films such as The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. After graduation, she married and had children, and her time for art began to dwindle. “I knew I wanted to engage myself,” Larson said one night at the kitchen table after a particularly tough day of parenting. She stated, “In something that made me feel the most like myself.”

A once-calming and therapeutic urge made her feel awkward and isolated. “I realised as I looked at my poor cartoon drawing that “artist” was one aspect of my identity that I wasn’t ready to let go of just yet. That must have been the wake-up call I needed because I went to work right away.”

Larson’s work demonstrates that she regained her confidence and polished her style. With her amusing parenting comics, she now uses life to drive her work. See what she’s been up to by scrolling down!
